Chapter 5 - THE TERRIBLE SECRET

Leo stared at the seven-year-old girl in utter disbelief.

"What are you talking about?!" Leo hissed, looking frantically around the dark laundry room.

"Your dad is a billionaire! He was crying when you walked!"

"It was all an act for the press and the board of directors," Lily said, tears brimming in her eyes.

"My mother left me a hidden recording in my wheelchair frame before she died."

"I found it two days ago."

"My father wanted the insurance payout and total control of her family's shipping company."

"He kept me paralyzed using daily nerve-blocker injections in my juice!"

Leo felt a cold chill run down his spine.

"Then... why did you stand up when I touched your hand?" Leo asked, his voice shaking.

"Because you dropped that small paper when you walked up to me at the party," Lily said, pulling a tiny glass vial from her pocket.

"You dropped an antidote vial that my mother's brother gave you!"

Leo gasped, reaching into his empty pockets in utter confusion.

"The man in the raincoat..." Leo realized, his eyes widening in shock.

"He told me to stand near you... he said he was your uncle!"

"Yes! My Uncle Raymond is still alive!" Lily whispered urgently.

"He's been trying to rescue me for three years!"

"My father isn't trying to save me, Leo... he's trying to eliminate me before I reveal the truth!"

Before Leo could process the horrific truth, the heavy door to the laundry room blew inward with a violent crash.

Armed men in dark tactical gear flooded into the room, high-powered flashlights blinding the children.

"Found them!" a mercenary shouted into his radio headset.

"The girl is with the target! Orders?"

Through the radio speaker, Victor’s cold, unfeeling voice rang out crystal clear:

"Terminate the boy. Bring my daughter to the private lab for permanent re-medication."

"Run!" Leo screamed, grabbing Lily’s hand with all his strength.

The mercenaries raised their suppressed rifles.

The quiet pings of silenced gunfire began to riddle the walls behind them.
