THE POISONED MIRACLE / Chapter 3 / 20

Chapter 3 - THE FORBIDDEN NOTE

Victor did not wait for the child to answer.

He saw Leo's desperate glance toward his left foot.

With a swift, ruthless motion, Victor grabbed Leo’s leg and ripped off his worn sneaker.

A dirty, folded piece of thick cream paper fell onto the concrete floor.

It was sealed with a wax stamp—a crest that made Victor’s blood run completely cold.

It was the insignia of the Blackwood Syndicate.

The very same syndicate that Victor had bankrupted six years ago to secure his empire.

"No..." Victor breathed out, his fingers trembling as he picked up the paper.

He broke the wax seal with a sharp snapping sound.

Inside, written in elegant, dark red ink, were only two lines:

“The debt of blood is never forgotten.

The miracle she carries will be her ultimate execution.”

Victor's breath hitched in his chest.

"What did you do to my daughter?!" Victor screamed, grabbing Leo by his shirt collar again.

"What did that man give you to put on her skin?!"

"Nothing! I swear on my life, nothing!" Leo wept hysterically.

"He just said if I touched the girl, she would walk, and I would get a warm meal!"

"You poisoned her with a temporary neuro-stimulant!" Victor concluded, his mind spiraling into madness.

"It's a trap to make me lower my guard!"

Suddenly, a sharp alarm began to blare throughout the entire estate basement.

Red emergency lights flashed violently against the cold stone walls.

“Warning: Vault breached in Sector 4. Medical lab compromised.” an automated voice blared over the speakers.

Marcus pulled his firearm from his holster immediately.

"Boss! Someone is inside the private medical wing right now!"

Victor turned his head slowly toward the stairs, his blood running hot with pure panic.

Lily was currently in the medical wing upstairs undergoing a full physical scan.

"Lock this boy in the vault cell!" Victor ordered coldly to the guard.

"If he moves an inch, put a bullet in him!"

Victor and Marcus rushed up the concrete stairs, guns drawn, leaving Leo trapped in pitch darkness.

The heavy steel door locked with a resounding click.

Leo was left alone in the dark, shivering violently on the floor.

He knew that if he stayed in this house, he would not live to see the sunrise.
