Chapter 12 - THE TRUE HEIR

Leo froze, his mind spinning into complete chaos.
"That's... that's impossible!" Leo screamed, stepping backward.
"I've lived on the street my whole life! I don't have a family!"
"Your father was Victor's older brother, Arthur Sterling," Eleanor explained calmly.
"Arthur was the real owner of the company."
"Seven years ago, Victor staged the plane crash that killed your parents."
"He thought you died in that crash too, but your mother hid you in an orphanage under a fake name before she passed away."
Lily stared at Leo with absolute wonder and terror in her eyes.
"Then... you're my cousin?" Lily asked softly.
"He isn't just your cousin, Lily," Eleanor chimed in.
"He is the only person alive whose bio-metric signature can unlock the vaults containing the evidence of all of Victor's crimes."
"Victor didn't send men to capture a witness tonight... he sent them to destroy the last blood heir."
Suddenly, the computer monitors on Eleanor's wall flickered violently with static noise.
A heavy digital distortion echoed through the bunker's speaker system.
The automated voice of Victor Sterling cut through the room:
"Did you really think an underground bunker built in 1990 could block my thermal satellite tracking, Eleanor?"
"They found us!" Eleanor yelled, slamming her hands onto the control console.
The heavy steel ceiling of the bunker shook as explosives detonated on the cabin above them.

Dust and stone debris rained down onto their heads.
"Get to the escape tunnel now!" Eleanor shouted, grabbing her shotgun.
