Chapter 14 - THE MAN WHO NEVER DISAPPEARED

For ten seconds, nobody moved.

Daniel stared at his mother.

The woman who had raised him.

The woman who had buried his father.

The woman who had stood beside his grave.

And now

she was saying the impossible.

“He’s alive?”

Margaret’s eyes filled with tears.

“Yes.”

Daniel stepped back.

“No.”

His voice became louder.

“No. I watched his funeral.”

“You watched a funeral.”

Margaret looked down.

“You did not see what happened afterward.”

The old Harrison family estate became the place where every secret finally came to life.

Daniel sat across from Margaret.

Amy sat beside him.

Not because everything was fixed.

Not because she had forgiven him.

But because she deserved the truth too.

The truth she should have known before she ever became part of the Harrison family.

“Your father didn’t die because of an accident.”

Margaret’s voice was quiet.

“He disappeared.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Why?”

“Because he knew people were coming for him.”

“Who?”

Margaret hesitated.

“People he betrayed.”

Daniel clenched his hands.

“So he ran?”

“Yes.”

“And left us?”

Margaret looked away.

“Yes.”

The answer hurt more than a lie.

Because Daniel finally understood.

His entire childhood was built around a man who had abandoned them.

“What about Vanessa?”

Margaret sighed.

“Vanessa found out years later.”

“And she wanted revenge.”

“Yes.”

“She blamed me.”

“Yes.”

Daniel laughed bitterly.

“Everyone blamed me for things I never knew.”

Amy looked at him.

For the first time, she saw something different.

Not excuses.

Pain.

Real pain.

Then the lights went out.

The room became completely dark.

Amy grabbed Daniel’s arm instinctively.

A second later, the power returned.

And someone was standing at the entrance.

An older man.

Silver hair.

A familiar face.

Daniel stopped breathing.

Because even after all these years

he knew him.

“Dad?”

Richard Harrison smiled.

“Hello, Daniel.”

The room went silent.

Margaret stood.

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Richard ignored her.

His eyes moved toward Amy.

“So this is the woman who almost destroyed everything.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Don’t talk about her like that.”

Richard looked surprised.

“Interesting.”

A small smile appeared.

“You finally learned to defend something other than your company.”

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“You manipulated all of us.”

Richard laughed.

“Manipulation?”

He walked into the room.

“No, Daniel.”

“I taught you.”

“Taught me what?”

“To survive.”

Amy watched Richard carefully.

She understood something immediately.

Daniel had spent years trying not to become his father.

But he had never realized how much his father had shaped him.

The obsession with success.

The fear of failure.

The inability to stop working.

The belief that love could wait.

Richard looked at Amy.

“You should have stayed away.”

Amy didn’t move.

“I should have known a long time ago.”

Richard smiled.

“You think you know everything now?”

Amy’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Richard looked at her stomach.

And then said:

“Your baby changes everything.”

Daniel stepped between them.

“Stay away from my wife.”

Richard laughed.

“Your wife?”

A pause.

“You still think you own your life.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

Richard pulled out a document.

“This company.”

He placed it on the table.

“It was never completely yours.”

Daniel picked it up.

His face changed.

May you like

Because the signature at the bottom

was his.
