Chapter 3 - THE WOMAN FROM EVERETT’S PAST

The woman’s name was Clara Bennett.

She was fifty-eight years old.

She had worked for the Kane family for twenty years.

Officially, she was only a housekeeper.

But Willa quickly realized something.

Clara was much more than that.

She knew every secret inside the mansion.

Every hidden room.

Every family conflict.

Every lie.

Clara looked at Everett sleeping peacefully.

Then whispered.

“He trusted the wrong people.”

Willa crossed her arms.

“Start talking.”

Clara looked surprised.

“You don’t waste time.”

“No.”

Willa answered.

“Because someone is trying to kill my husband.”

The word husband made Clara look at her.

“You actually care about him?”

Willa looked confused.

“Why wouldn’t I?”

Clara looked away.

“Because everyone else stopped.”

Clara revealed that Everett’s accident was not an accident.

Eight months earlier…

Everett was preparing to expose someone inside his own organization.

Someone stealing money.

Someone selling information.

Someone close.

Very close.

“Who?”

Clara hesitated.

Willa already knew.

“Sterling.”

Clara didn’t answer.

She didn’t need to.

That evening, Everett heard everything.

Every word.

Every secret.

And for the first time in eight months…

He understood.

He wasn’t trapped because of an accident.

He was trapped because someone wanted him silent.

But then he heard Willa speak.

“If Sterling is responsible…”

A pause.

“I’ll bring him down.”

Everett felt something he had forgotten.

Trust.

But then…

A terrible sound filled the room.

The heart monitor.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Suddenly faster.

Willa jumped.

“Everett!”

Clara rushed forward.

“What’s happening?”

Willa checked the medication line.

Her face changed.

The liquid inside the IV was different.

Someone had changed it.

Again.

And this time…

They weren’t trying to keep Everett asleep.

They were trying to make sure he never woke up.

Willa grabbed the emergency button.

But before she could press it…

The door locked from the outside.

Clara looked at the handle.

Then whispered:

“Oh no.”

Willa turned.

“What?”

Clara’s face went pale.

“They know.”

A voice came through the speaker.

Sterling Kane.

“Mrs. Kane…”

Willa froze.

“You should have listened.”

His voice was calm.

Almost polite.

“Some people are not meant to save others.”

Willa looked at Everett.

Then at the locked door.

And smiled.

A dangerous smile.

Because Sterling had made one mistake.

He thought Willa Hayes was still the woman everyone had destroyed.

He forgot one thing.

A woman who had already lost everything…

Had nothing left to fear.

She looked at the camera in the corner.

And said:

“Sterling…”

A pause.

“I hope you’re recording this.”

Silence.

May you like

Then:

“Because this is the moment you lose everything.”
