Chapter 12 - THE TRUTH EVERETT HID

The meeting ended without answers.
But the question remained.
What was Everett hiding?
Willa waited until they returned to his room.
Then she closed the door.
“Tell me.”
Everett looked at her.
“Willa…”
“No.”
Her voice was firm.
“I spent three years being destroyed because people hid the truth from me.”
She stepped closer.
“I won’t live like that again.”
Everett looked away.
Finally…
He spoke.
“Your nursing license.”
Willa froze.
“What about it?”
“I knew about the investigation before it happened.”
The words hit her.
Hard.
“You knew?”
Everett closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
The room became silent.
Willa stepped back.
“You knew they were coming after me.”
“Yes.”
“And you did nothing?”
Pain appeared on Everett’s face.
“I tried.”
“No.”
Her voice broke.
“You watched.”
“I was investigating.”
“You were protecting your empire.”
Everett couldn’t deny it.
Because she was right.
“I thought I could fix it quietly.”
Everett whispered.
“I thought I could find who was responsible.”
“And while you searched…”
Willa looked away.
“I lost everything.”
Everett lowered his head.
“I know.”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“You don’t.”
Her eyes filled with anger.
“You woke up in a mansion.”
“I woke up with nobody.”
The words destroyed him.
Because they were true.
For the first time…
Everett Kane had no defense.
No power.
No excuse.
Only regret.
“I’m sorry.”
Willa looked at him.
“I don’t know if that’s enough.”
“I know.”
A long silence.
Then Everett said:
“But I will spend the rest of my life proving it.”
Before Willa could answer…
The mansion alarm sounded again.
But this time…
It wasn’t an attack.
It was a message.
Every television screen inside the mansion turned on.
A video appeared.
A man sitting in darkness.
Dr. Alan Whitfield.
Everyone froze.
The doctor smiled.
“Everett.”
His voice echoed.
“You always thought you were the smartest person in the room.”
He looked at the camera.
“You were wrong.”
Everett’s face turned cold.
Whitfield continued.
“You want the truth?”
A pause.
“Fine.”
The screen changed.
A hospital recording appeared.
Three years earlier.
St. Ambrose Hospital.
Willa’s investigation.
But this time…
The footage showed something nobody had ever seen.
Dr. Whitfield entering the medication room.
Holding the same file.
The same evidence.
The same signature.
He looked directly into the camera.
And smiled.
Willa covered her mouth.
Because the world was about to learn the truth.
She had never been guilty.
She had been framed.
And the man who destroyed her life…
Was finally exposing himself.
But then the video changed again.
A second person appeared.
Someone standing beside Whitfield.
Someone Willa never expected.
Someone who made Everett whisper:
“No…”
Because standing next to Dr. Whitfield…
Was Everett’s closest friend.
May you like
The man who had protected him for twelve years.
Marcus Reed.
