Chapter 16 - The Glass Drops

Arthur froze completely dead in his tracks, staring at Harrison with absolute, paralyzing horror.
"How... how on earth could you possibly have known about the basement modifications?!" Arthur gasped out.
"You acquired that specialized military gas system from a black-market broker in Zurich," Harrison explained calmly.
"That entire brokerage operates directly under the financial umbrella of my private intelligence network."
"I was fully aware of your desperate treason long before you ever stepped foot inside this estate tonight."
Arthur’s face flushed a deep, terrifying crimson, his mind completely surrendering to pure, unhinged rage.
"You arrogant, manipulative old bastard!" Arthur screamed frantically at the top of his lungs.
He unexpectedly drew a sharp, concealable razor knife from his sleeve and lunged straight at Harrison's heart.
Evelyn acted purely on raw, instinctual adrenaline before her mind could even process the movement.
She frantically seized a heavy, solid bronze antique statue from the marble side table beside her.
She swung the heavy bronze weapon through the air with every single ounce of strength left in her body.
CRACK!
The heavy bronze metallic edge slammed brutally straight into the side of Arthur's jaw and skull.
Arthur collapsed violently onto the hard hardwood floor like a sack of stones, completely unconscious and bleeding profusely.
The sharp razor knife slipped uselessly from his limp fingers, clattering harmlessly against the Persian rug.
Evelyn stood towering over his unconscious body, chest heaving rapidly, the heavy bronze statue still held tight in her hands.
Harrison walked slowly around the mahogany desk and gently, tenderly lifted the heavy bronze object from her grip.

He pulled her into a warm, protective, and fatherly embrace as the heavy silence descended back upon the study.
"You displayed remarkable courage tonight, my dear Evelyn," Harrison whispered with profound pride.
