Chapter 14 - The Red Button
Arthur casually reached his hand inside the deep inner lining of his expensive bespoke suit jacket.
Evelyn gasped loudly in horror, instinctively backing away, fearing he was reaching for a loaded firearm.
Instead, Arthur slowly pulled out a small, heavy black remote control device with a single glowing red light.
"I strongly suggest that neither of you make a single sudden movement," Arthur said with terrifying, smooth calm.
"What absurd game are you playing now, Arthur?" Harrison asked, his voice deathly still and completely emotionless.
"This little device directly controls the emergency high-pressure gas release valves in the lower basement," Arthur revealed.
"I personally paid an external contractor to install it three days ago during the security infrastructure upgrade."
"If my thumb depresses this red button, odorless carbon monoxide will instantly flood the entire lower level medical wing."
"Where your beloved loyal domestic staff and little Leo's recovery ward are currently located."
Evelyn’s breath was violently ripped straight from her lungs as total panic consumed her entire mind.
"You wouldn't murder your own innocent family members!" she shrieked out in complete horror.
"I will execute whatever extreme measures are necessary to secure my rightful inheritance," Arthur stated ruthlessly.
"Now, Harrison, sit down behind that desk and sign the immediate corporate transfer documents sitting in front of you."
"Irrevocably transfer all voting rights and asset management of Vance Holdings directly to me."
"If you refuse or stall, every single human being on the lower level suffocates within five minutes."
Harrison quietly gazed down at the official legal transfer papers lying flat on his mahogany desk.
He slowly and deliberately reached into his pocket, extracting his heavy gold fountain pen.
