Chapter 13 - The Serpent's Confession

An hour later, the grand ballroom had been completely cleared and locked down by federal authorities.
Evelyn sat quietly inside Harrison’s private library, her hands wrapped tightly around a hot mug.
Arthur Vance sat comfortably in a deep leather armchair directly across from Harrison’s mahogany desk.
He looked extraordinarily relaxed, taking slow, deliberate sips from his expensive champagne glass.
"Why are you staring at me with such absurd suspicion, Harrison?" Arthur asked with a faint, mocking smile.
"Do you actually place any credence in the desperate ramblings of a manic lunatic like Richard?"
"Richard was a pathetic fool, Arthur," Harrison stated, his voice ringing with absolute, heavy weight.
"But he was a extremely desperate, cornered fool."
"He just informed the federal investigators that his internal source was compensated through a secretive Swiss account."
"A primary account registered under the specific legal name of 'A. Vance'."
Arthur’s arrogant smile slowly faded from his sharp face, replaced by a dark, sinister stillness.
He slowly set his crystal champagne glass down onto the small antique side table.
"You always were far too sharp for your own good, big brother," Arthur murmured softly, his tone completely changing.
Evelyn staggered back a step in complete, heartbreaking shock, clutching her chest tightly.
"Uncle Arthur... it was really you?" Evelyn stammered out, her voice cracking with profound betrayal.
"You actively helped Julian torture and abuse me for months?!"
"I didn't give a damn about Julian," Arthur spat out dismissively, his polite eyes suddenly flashing with pure hatred.
"I cared exclusively about the four billion dollars sitting inside the Vance family foundation."

"Harrison was preparing to foolishly sign over every single operational asset to you, Evelyn."
"A naive girl who spent her entire youth painting useless pictures while I managed the corporate investments!"
