Chapter 7 - The Black SUV
Eleanor grabbed Lily by the waist and sprinted straight toward the idling black SUV.
The rain poured down in relentless sheets, blinding her vision.
Behind them, the shouts of Julian’s security guards echoed across the paved driveway.
"Hurry! Get in before they close the main gates!" the silver-haired woman yelled from the backseat.
Eleanor shoved Lily into the vehicle first and scrambled in right behind her.
"Drive!" Eleanor screamed, slamming the heavy SUV door shut.
The driver slammed his foot onto the accelerator, sending gravel spraying across the lawn.
The black SUV surged forward, speeding toward the rapidly closing iron gates.
Julian stood on the chapel steps, his face contorted in absolute rage as he watched them escape.
The front bumper of the SUV smashed through the narrowing gap between the iron gates with a violent metal crash.
Sparks flew into the night sky as the vehicle forced its way out onto the main highway.
Eleanor fell back against the leather seat, gasping for air, her heart pounding against her ribs.
She turned her head slowly to look at the woman sitting right beside her in the dark cabin.
The woman sat quietly, wrapped in a dark trench coat, her hands trembling in her lap.
Her face was lined with faint scars, but her deep blue eyes were unmistakable.
"Mom...?" Eleanor whispered, her voice cracking with overwhelming emotion.
The woman turned to face Eleanor, tears welling up in her weary eyes.
"I am so sorry it took me ten years to reach you, my sweet girl," her mother whispered.
Eleanor reached out to touch her mother's face, needing to prove to herself that this was real.
Before her fingers could touch her mother's skin, the driver yelled out from the front seat.
"We have a problem back there!" the driver shouted, glancing frantically into his rearview mirror.

Three dark sedans with high-beam headlights were speeding down the highway directly behind them.
