Chapter 9 - Infiltration

The high-security Defense Spire loomed over Sector 4 like a monolithic grave.

Searchlights cut through the heavy downpour, sweeping across the perimeter perimeter fences.

Victoria observed the security layout from the shadow of a nearby ventilation duct.

She had stripped off the ruin of her evening gown.

In its place, she now wore the tactical combat gear taken from Marcus's SUV.

The black armor fit her tightly, hiding her battle scars beneath heavy Kevlar.

Her bare feet were now encased in combat boots.

She felt like herself again—a ghost ready for war.

She tapped into the guard frequency using Marcus's stolen comms unit.

"All units, high alert level Red," the automated system announced. "Security perimeter compromised at Gate 2."

Victoria smiled faintly.

She had set Marcus's armored vehicle on auto-pilot to crash into Gate 2 as a distraction.

Sirens blared across the complex as guards rushed to reinforce the main gate.

Victoria moved like a phantom toward the blind spot near the rear ventilation shaft.

She swiped the stolen biometric keycard against the maintenance panel.

The heavy steel door chimed green and slid open with a soft hiss.

She slipped inside the complex, disappearing into the dark sub-levels.

Every wall was lined with security cameras.

Every door required high-level clearance.

She navigated the corridors from memory, avoiding automatic laser turrets.

As she reached the door marked SUB-LEVEL 3: HIGH VALUE DETENTION, her comms earpiece crackled again.

"Welcome to the basement, Commander," a female voice purred into her ear.

It was Evelyn, the woman from the ballroom.
