Chapter 15 - THE POISONED DAGGER

Mark’s stomach dropped into a cold, dark abyss.

He turned instantly toward Sarah, whose cheerful expression had suddenly turned into confusion.

"Sarah... look in your pocket," Mark demanded, his voice shaking with sudden panic.

Sarah reached her trembling hand into the deep side pocket of her winter coat.

Her fingers brushed against something small, round, and metallic.

She pulled her hand out, holding a tiny, empty glass vial with a silver cap and a faint purple residue coating the inner glass.

"What... what is this?" Sarah asked, her brow furrowing. "I didn't put this here..."

"Oh, sweet Sarah," Eleanor’s cold voice echoed from the hallway as the officers forced her toward the exit.

"Did you really think the water I gave you in the kitchen yesterday morning was just plain tap water?"

"It’s a specialized, tasteless nerve agent developed by Victor’s private lab."

"Slow-acting... silent... impossible to detect without a specific blood panel."

Sarah dropped the empty vial. It shattered on the marble floor into a hundred tiny shards.

Her face drained of all color, and her knees suddenly buckled beneath her weight.

"Mark..." Sarah gasped, her breath catching violently in her chest as she collapsed sideways.

Mark lunged forward, catching her before her head hit the hard stone floor, while Jax quickly grabbed Leo from her arms.

Leo began to cry loudly, senses picking up the panic filling the room.

"Sarah! Sarah, look at me!" Mark screamed, cradling her head in his lap.

Her lips were already turning a faint, alarming shade of blue, and cold sweat beaded across her forehead.

"Eleanor! Give me the antidote!" Mark roared toward his mother, his eyes wild with absolute desperation.

Eleanor just laughed—a dry, bitter, psychotic sound that sent chills down everyone's spine.

"There is no antidote in this city, Mark," Eleanor sneered as the elevator doors closed on her.
