Chapter 9 - The Point of No Return
"Put the gun down, Victoria!" Julian shouted, stepping in front of Chloe.
Victoria’s hand trembled on the trigger, her face twisted in psychotic fury.
"She ruined everything, Julian!" Victoria screamed, her voice echoing violently in the small room.
"We were going to be happy!"
"We were going to inherit the entire Sterling estate together!"
"You never loved me!" Julian spat with pure disgust.
"You murdered my wife!"
Victoria laughed hysterically, a blood-chilling sound that made the air freeze.
"Clara was weak!" Victoria yelled.
"She found out I was transferring company funds into my offshore accounts!"
"She was going to tell you!"
"I did you a favor by slipping that cardiac paralyzer into her tea!"
"She didn't feel a thing when I pushed her over that railing!"
Behind Victoria, the door swung open silently.
Detective Vance stepped into the room with his service weapon drawn and aim locked.
"Victoria Vance, drop your weapon now!" Vance commanded.
Victoria turned her head slightly in shock.
Taking advantage of the split second of distraction, Julian lunged forward.
He grabbed Victoria's wrist and twisted it upward!
BANG!
A gunshot shattered the window frame, sending shards of glass flying through the air!
Julian tackled Victoria to the floor, disarming her and slamming her hand against the tiles until she let go of the pistol.
Vance rushed in and pinned Victoria down, snapping heavy steel cuffs onto her wrists.
"It's over, Victoria," Vance said coldly.
Victoria thrashed on the ground, screaming obscenities as rain poured through the broken window.
Chloe ran straight to the bed and scooped up Lily, wrapping her in a warm hospital blanket.
"Daddy... Chloe..." Lily whimpered softly, coming back to full consciousness.
Julian knelt beside them, tears finally streaming down his face as he wrapped his massive arms around both of them.
