Chapter 8 - Night of the Storm

Rain lashed against the windshield of the SUV as they sped down the winding mountain road.

The dark towers of St. Jude Sanatorium appeared through the fog.

Heavy iron gates barred the entrance, guarded by two private security officers in black slickers.

"They won't open the gate for us," Mark said, gearing up.

"Don't hit the brakes," Julian commanded.

Mark pressed the gas pedal flat against the floor.

The heavy SUV smashed straight through the iron gates with a deafening roar of twisting metal and shattering glass!

The security guards scrambled out of the way, shouting into their radios.

Mark spun the steering wheel, bringing the vehicle to a sliding halt right in front of the main lobby doors.

Julian and Chloe leaped out into the pouring rain and burst through the double glass doors.

Alarm sirens blared through the sterile white corridors.

"Room 402!" Chloe shouted, reading the emergency directory board on the wall.

They sprinted up the stairwell, ignoring the shouting security guards chasing behind them.

Julian threw his weight against the door of Room 402, breaking the electronic lock.

Inside, Victoria was standing over a hospital bed where Lily lay groggy and pale.

A nurse was holding a syringe filled with clear fluid, preparing to inject it into Lily's IV tube.

"Stop!" Chloe screamed, charging at the nurse and tackling her to the floor.

The syringe flew across the room and shattered against the wall.

Victoria spun around, her eyes wild with rage.

"You stupid bitch!" Victoria shrieked, pulling a small silver pistol from her designer handbag.

She pointed the barrel directly at Chloe's chest.

"I should have killed you in that bathroom!" Victoria sneered.
