Chapter 4 - The Snakes Emerge

The morning sun cast long, cold shadows across the courthouse steps.

Reporters swarmed the perimeter like hungry vultures.

Flashbulbs popped frantically as a sleek black sedan pulled up.

Victoria stepped out, dressed in an elegant white suit and wearing oversized dark sunglasses.

Beside her walked Lady Eleanor Sterling, looking regal and unbothered.

Victoria faced the reporters and wiped away a fake tear.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic misunderstandings within the Sterling family," Victoria said into the microphones.

"I love little Lily as if she were my own daughter."

"Unfortunately, unstable household staff have manipulated a grieving child to tear our family apart."

"Justice will prevail, and the truth will come out."

In the back of the courtroom, Chloe watched the broadcast on her phone while holding Lily’s small hand.

Lily squeezed Chloe's fingers so tightly her knuckles turned white.

"She's lying, Chloe," Lily whimpered softly.

"She put bad medicine in Mommy's tea before Mommy went to the balcony."

Chloe froze as a chill ran down her spine.

"Lily... did you see her put medicine in the tea?" Chloe whispered gently.

Lily nodded slowly, her eyes wide with fear.

"Mommy fell asleep on the chair, and then Victoria pushed the chair over the rail."

"I was hiding under the curtains."

"Victoria told me if I ever said a word, she would burn my face so bad Daddy wouldn't love me anymore."

Chloe felt a wave of cold fury crash over her.

She pulled out her phone and hit record on her voice memo app.

"Lily, can you tell me that one more time?" Chloe asked gently.

Before Lily could answer, the door to the waiting room burst open.

Lady Eleanor walked in, flanked by two towering bodyguards.

"Take the child," Eleanor commanded cold-heartedly.

"What?!" Chloe stood up, blocking Lily behind her.

"You have no right to take her!"

"I am her legal grandmother!" Eleanor sneered.

"And you are a lowly maid accused of child endangerment and assault!"
