Chapter 14 - MEMORIES OF THE PAST
The summer rain fell gently on the pristine grounds of the city memorial park.
Lily walked down the paved pathway holding a small bouquet of white lilies, Mia holding her hand tightly as they walked side by side.
They stopped before a clean marble headstone engraved with a simple inscription: JULIAN HALE - BELOVED HUSBAND AND FATHER - A MAN OF TRUTH.
Lily knelt down on the damp grass, placing the flowers gently at the base of the stone.
"Hi, Julian," she whispered softly, her fingers tracing the carved letters of his name.
"Mia is doing so well."
"She started preschool last week, and she talks about you every single day."
Mia stepped closer, placing a small crayon drawing she had made on top of the marble base.
It showed a picture of three people standing in front of a big house under a bright yellow sun.
"I brought you a picture, Daddy," Mia said in her sweet, high voice.
"Mommy said you watch over us from the sky."
A gentle breeze blew through the autumn leaves of the oak tree above them, carrying a sense of warmth and comfort despite the rain.
