Chapter 12 - A MOTHER'S PROMISE
Later that evening, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of gold, amber, and purple.
The estate was quiet, filled with a peaceful stillness that had been missing for years.
Lily sat on the window sill of Mia's newly decorated bedroom, watching her daughter sleep peacefully under a soft handmade quilt.
On the bedside table sat the framed photograph she had retrieved from Box 408—Julian holding baby Mia in his arms.
Lily walked over to the bed, gently tucking the blanket around her daughter's shoulders and kissing her forehead.
"We did it, sweetheart," she whispered into the quiet night.
"Your daddy's truth is finally out there."
"No one will ever make you feel like you don't belong here again."
She picked up the stuffed plush bunny resting on the pillow beside Mia.
She opened the small back seam where the recording device had been placed, removed the tiny black electronics, and set them aside.
She replaced it with a small wooden heart carved with Julian’s initials that she had kept in her jewelry box for years.
She carefully stitched the seam closed with needle and thread.
