Chapter 17 - THE NEW BEGINNING

Six months later.
The morning sun shone brightly through the wide windows of a serene beachfront house.
The sound of gentle ocean waves echoed softly against the glass doors.
Inside, the room was filled with soft pastel colors, far away from the cold steel of hospital suites.
Maya sat in a wooden rocking chair near the balcony, holding a newborn baby wrapped in a yellow blanket.
The baby slept peacefully, its tiny hands resting against Maya's chest.
Richard walked into the room carrying a tray with fresh fruit and warm tea.
He looked years younger; the heavy stress and shadows on his face were entirely gone.
"How is my grandson doing?" Richard asked with a smile, placing the tray on the coffee table.
"He just fell asleep," Maya whispered back, smiling down at her baby boy.
"He has your eyes, Dad," she added softly.
Julian stepped into the room from the garden deck, carrying a wooden cradle he had built himself.
He set it down gently beside the rocking chair.
"The cradle is finished," Julian said proudly, running a hand over the smooth polished wood.
"It's beautiful, Julian," Maya said, her eyes shining with warmth.
"Thank you."
Julian sat down on the rug beside them, looking at the sleeping child.
"The lawyers called this morning," Julian mentioned, his tone becoming serious for a moment.
"Victoria's final appeal was rejected by the high court."
"She was sentenced to twenty-five years without parole," Julian stated.
Richard took a slow sip of his tea, looking out at the glittering ocean.
"She will never hurt anyone ever again," Richard said quietly.
"The Vance estate has been fully restructured into a charitable foundation for protected mothers."
"Just like you wanted, Maya," Richard added.
Maya reached out and picked up the faded old photograph resting on the side table.
It showed her biological mother, Elena, smiling happily on a sunlit beach years ago.
"She would be happy to see us here," Maya said softly, touching the corner of the picture.

Suddenly, a distant rumble of a motorcycle engine sounded from the driveway outside.
Maya looked toward the window, a hopeful smile spreading across her face.
