Chapter 5 - THE HUSBAND WHO WAS ALSO A TARGET

Daniel didn’t sleep.

Not even for a minute.

He sat in his office until sunrise, surrounded by papers, recordings, and memories that suddenly felt like lies.

Every photo.

Every family dinner.

Every holiday.

Everything had another meaning now.

Victoria had not simply entered his family.

She had studied it.

She had learned every weakness.

Every emotional connection.

Every legal detail.

And then she attacked.

Michael arrived at seven in the morning.

He placed a folder on the desk.

“We need to talk.”

Daniel looked exhausted.

“What did you find?”

Michael opened the folder.

“The document claiming your mother was mentally incompetent was submitted six months ago.”

Daniel stared.

“But I never signed anything.”

“I know.”

“Then why does it have my name?”

Michael looked serious.

“Because someone copied your signature.”

Daniel laughed bitterly.

“She forged mine too?”

“Yes.”

A long silence.

Then Daniel asked:

“How far does this go?”

Michael looked at the papers.

“Farther than we thought.”

He handed him another document.

Daniel read it.

Then his face changed.

“This is a transfer agreement.”

“Yes.”

“My shares?”

Michael nodded.

“Victoria was preparing to move control of Whitmore Industries.”

Daniel looked up.

“To who?”

Michael didn’t answer immediately.

That scared Daniel more than anything.

“To a company called Blackwell Capital.”

Daniel frowned.

“I’ve never heard of them.”

“You have.”

Michael pointed at the document.

“The owner is listed under another name.”

Daniel looked.

His heart stopped.

The company belonged to…

“Robert Voss.”

Daniel stood immediately.

“No.”

Michael nodded.

“Yes.”

Robert Voss was Daniel’s biggest business rival.

A man who had tried for years to destroy Whitmore Industries.

A man who had lost billions because Daniel’s father defeated him.

Daniel looked at the papers.

“My wife was working with my enemy.”

“Yes.”

The room went silent.

Then Daniel remembered something.

The phone call.

Victoria’s secret conversation.

The man’s voice.

He had assumed it was just a criminal partner.

Now he knew.

It was someone much closer.

Someone with a reason to hate his family.

Michael looked at him.

“There’s more.”

Daniel turned.

“What?”

“The police found a hidden account.”

“Victoria’s?”

“No.”

Michael placed a printed record on the table.

“It belongs to Robert Voss.”

Daniel read the transaction history.

Millions transferred.

Over several years.

Payments.

Arrangements.

Private agreements.

Then one line caught his attention.

A payment made one week before his father died.

Daniel’s hands shook.

“What is this?”

Michael’s face became grim.

“I was hoping you would never have to ask that question.”

Daniel looked at him.

“What are you saying?”

Michael took a breath.

“I think Victoria may not have entered your family to steal from you.”

A pause.

“I think she entered your family because of what happened to your father.”

Daniel stared.

The possibility was horrifying.

“My father’s death was an accident.”

May you like

Michael didn’t respond.

And that silence said everything.
