Chapter 3 - THE WOMAN BEHIND THE MASK
Police lights surrounded the Whitmore estate before midnight.
Victoria sat on the kitchen floor wrapped in a blanket.
She looked fragile.
Broken.
Exactly how she wanted people to see her.
When the officers entered, she immediately started crying.
“Thank God you’re here.”
One officer looked at her.
“What happened?”
Victoria pointed at Clara.
“She attacked my mother-in-law.”
Clara stared at her.
“What?”
“She became violent when I confronted her.”
Daniel almost laughed.
Almost.
Because the lie was so unbelievable.
But Victoria had been preparing for this moment.
She had witnesses.
Fake messages.
Edited recordings.
A story.
And stories could destroy innocent people.
The officer turned toward Daniel.
“Sir, what is your relationship to everyone involved?”
Daniel looked at Victoria.
“My wife.”
Victoria lowered her eyes.
Waiting.
Expecting him to protect her.
Instead, Daniel said:
“She is the suspect.”
The entire room froze.
Victoria looked up.
“What did you say?”
Daniel stepped closer.
“You heard me.”
Her face changed.
The confidence disappeared.
“You’re choosing them over me?”
“No.”
Daniel looked at his mother.
“I’m choosing the truth.”
Then Michael entered carrying the evidence file.
“The investigation has already begun.”
Victoria stood.
“You planned this?”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
He looked at the cameras.
“You did.”
The officer opened the file.
Inside were bank records.
Security footage.
Recorded conversations.
And one final document.
Victoria’s handwritten plan.
The officer read it silently.
Then looked at her.
“Mrs. Whitmore…”
His voice became serious.
“You’re under arrest.”
Victoria stared at Daniel.
But instead of anger…
She smiled.
A small, terrifying smile.
Because she knew something they didn’t.
Something that could destroy everything.
“You think you won.”
Daniel frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Victoria leaned closer as the officers grabbed her arms.
“You never asked why I needed your mother’s signature.”
Daniel’s expression changed.
“What did you do?”
Victoria smiled.
“You’ll find out.”
The police dragged her away.
But Daniel stood frozen.
