Chapter 18 - Shadows in the Courtroom
Two months later, the central courthouse was surrounded by hundreds of journalists and peaceful protesters.
People held signs reading JUSTICE FOR LILY and END THE CORRUPTION.
Inside the grand courtroom, Grandfather Arthur sat at the defense table dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit.
His polished image was entirely gone; he looked old, frail, and defeated.
Aunt Stephanie sat beside him, weeping silently with her head lowered.
Mark sat in the front row of the gallery, dressed in a sharp suit, holding Lily’s hand.
The judge slammed her gavel down, restoring absolute silence to the room.
"We will now hear the final sentencing for the defendant, Arthur Miller Senior," the judge declared sternly.
The lead prosecutor stood up and turned toward the jury.
"Your Honor, the actions of Arthur Miller and his family were not just crimes of passion or isolated incidents."
"They were part of a systematic pattern of cruelty, bribery, and abuse spanning decades."
"They used their wealth to silence victims and frame an innocent father."
The judge looked down at Arthur with deep contempt.
"Arthur Miller, you have shown zero remorse for the horrific acts committed under your roof."
"For the charges of severe child abuse, evidence tampering, and conspiracy, this court sentences you to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole."
A loud cheer erupted throughout the gallery.
Arthur dropped his head onto the table, sobbing in utter defeat.
Aunt Stephanie burst into loud, hysterical wails as guards dragged her toward the side door to begin her twenty-year sentence.
Mark stood up, holding Lily close to his chest.
Lily looked up at the judge, then looked at her father.
"Daddy... are the bad people gone forever?" she whispered.
Mark smiled, a real, bright smile for the first time in years.
"Yes, baby," Mark whispered back.
