Chapter 13 - The Public Execution

Panicked screams and gasps echoed from the gran

d ballroom below.

Through the heavy oak door, Mark could hear the chaos spreading like wildfire through Arthur’s wealthy guests.

Aunt Stephanie stared at Mark in sheer, helpless horror, her lips trembling uncontrollably.

"You... you ruined us," she stammered, backing away until her spine hit the bookshelf.

"You ruined yourself the moment you touched my daughter," Mark said coldly, keeping his sight lined up on her face.

Downstairs, Grandfather Arthur was shouting at his security guards, his face turning a dangerous shade of purple.

"Shut it off! Cut the power! Unplug the screens!" Arthur screamed, his voice cracking with rage.

The wealthy donors and influential politicians in attendance backed away from Arthur in complete disgust.

The footage on the massive screens showed the burns on four-year-old Lily’s arms in graphic, unedited detail.

It showed Arthur standing in the background, smiling as the child cried out in pain.

Reporters who were invited to cover the charity event quickly raised their cameras, recording the horrifying scene live on national television.

The broadcast was instantly picked up by news stations across the state.

The framed narrative created by Arthur’s media team collapsed in a matter of seconds.

Inside the study, the door suddenly shuddered under a violent kick.

"Mark! Open this door!" Victor’s loud voice roared from the hallway.

Stephanie’s eyes widened with sudden, wicked hope.

"Kill him, Victor! He’s in here!" she screamed at the top of her lungs.

Mark didn't hesitate.

He lunged forward, grabbed Stephanie by the collar, and pulled her in front of him as a human shield.

The lock shattered, and the heavy oak door burst open.

Victor stepped into the room with his pistol drawn, his eyes locking onto Mark behind Stephanie.

"Drop the weapon, Mark, or I put a bullet through both of you," Victor growled, his hand steady.

"Go ahead," Mark replied, his voice dead and emotionless.

"Shoot her."

"She’s the one who started this whole nightmare."

Victor hesitated, his finger trembling on the trigger as Stephanie shrieked in absolute terror.
