Chapter 15 - The Falling Dominoes

The piercing red and blue lights illuminated the muddy gravel driveway in a blinding storm of colors.

Federal agents moved in with military precision, pushing past the stunned high-society guests.

Heavy steel handcuffs clicked tightly around Grandfather Arthur’s wrists while he lay in the mud.

"You can't do this to me!" Arthur screamed, his voice cracking with desperate rage.

"Do you know who I am?"

"I own the mayor!"

"I own the state prosecutor!"

A tall lead federal agent leaned down, his face expressionless under his dark cap.

"Not anymore, Arthur."

"The Governor watched that video live on national television ten minutes ago."

"Your political friends are already turning off their phones."

"You're going away for a very long time."

Mark stood in the pouring rain, watching silently as Arthur was dragged into the back of a black van.

A few yards away, Aunt Stephanie was led out in hand restraints, sobbing uncontrollably.

Her expensive dress was soaked in rain and ruined by dirt.

She caught Mark’s eye and tried to shout something, but an agent shoved her into a patrol vehicle.

Mark turned away, his heart pounding, and ran toward the perimeter fence where Sarah’s car was hidden.

He needed to get back to Lily.

He needed to hold his daughter and tell her that the nightmare was finally over.

As he reached the dense oak trees, a dark shadow stepped out from behind a tree trunk.

Victor stood there, bleeding from a deep head wound, holding a short-barreled shotgun.

His eyes were bloodshot and filled with pure, murderous insanity.

"You took everything from us, Mark," Victor snarled, his hand shaking on the stock.

"Arthur promised me millions!"

"Now I’m a wanted murderer!"

"If I’m going to prison, I’m taking you to hell with me!"

Victor raised the heavy barrel directly at Mark’s chest.
