Chapter 11 - The Fall of the Vance Dynasty

Eleanor slumped against the fuselage, sobbing openly into her designer scarf as federal agents mounted the airstairs, pinning Julian against the metal railing.

“Julian Vance, you are under arrest for grand larceny, insurance fraud, conspiracy, and attempted murder,” Agent Miller stated loudly, snapping steel handcuffs around Julian’s wrists with brutal efficiency.

Julian screamed in pain as his bruised ribs were pressed against the cold rail. “Evelyn! Tell them! Tell them this was a misunderstanding! I’ll give you whatever you want! Ten million! Fifty million! Just drop the charges!”

Evelyn watched him with absolute indifference. “You don't have fifty million, Julian. You don't even have the clothes on your back.”

Two agents escorted Eleanor down the stairs, stripping her of her expensive handbag and jewelry right on the tarmac for evidence processing.

“You ungrateful little pest!” Eleanor spat at Evelyn as she was led past. “You won’t get a single penny from our family! Not a single cent!”

“I don’t want your money, Eleanor,” Evelyn replied softly. “I just wanted you out of my daughter’s life. And now, you’re going to spend the rest of yours in a federal penitentiary.”

As the police cruisers carried Julian and Eleanor away into the stormy night, Marcus walked up beside Evelyn, handing her a dry towel.

“The board of directors held an emergency midnight vote,” Marcus said quietly. “They’ve stripped Julian of all voting rights and officially named me interim CEO of Vance Logistics.”

Evelyn looked at him, wiping the rain from her eyes. “What about the custody agreement?”

Marcus reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a signed, stamped court document. “The family court judge revoked Julian’s parental rights an hour ago based on Victoria’s full confession and the surveillance footage. Lily is legally, completely, and solely yours. Forever.”

Evelyn looked at the document. The weight of six long years of terror, abuse, and manipulation suddenly lifted from her shoulders. Her knees buckled slightly, but Marcus caught her arm, supporting her gently.

“Thank you, Marcus,” she whispered.

“Don’t thank me yet,” Marcus said, his eyes scanning the empty airfield. “There’s one more thing we need to deal with.”
