Chapter 9 - The Cornerstone

Eighteen months later.
The morning sun reflected brilliantly off the sweeping, eco-friendly curved glass of the new downtown Civic Arts Pavilion. Hundreds of city officials, journalists, and local citizens gathered around the grand plaza for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Clara Vance stood at the podium, dressed in a sharp, elegant navy pantsuit. She looked confident, poised, and utterly in command of the room.
"Architecture is not about dominating a space," Clara said into the microphone, her voice echoing clearly across the plaza. "It’s about creating an environment where everyone, regardless of where they come from, has a place to stand without fear."
Applause erupted across the crowd.
Standing in the very front row, wearing a tailored charcoal suit with a silver pocket square, her father clapped slowly, a proud smile warming his face.
Behind the security barricades at the far edge of the street, a young man in worn work clothes and dusty boots paused to look at the massive bronze plaque being unveiled near the entrance.
The engraving caught the sunlight:

Designed with integrity. Built to endure.
Julian pulled his baseball cap down lower over his eyes, turned his back on the glittering glass tower, and disappeared quietly into the crowd.
