Chapter 15 - The Gathering Storm

By morning, the cabin was cleaned, and the traces of battle were hidden away. A local, deeply loyal associate of Julian’s father arrived with a fresh vehicle, weapons, and secure communications.
Julian stood by the map laid out on the dining table, pointing to the industrial port on the east side of the city.
"Marcus is holding a meeting tonight with the heads of the five rival families at Port 4," Julian explained to his loyal men. "He’s going to announce the formal destruction of the Rossi line and present himself as the new king of the underworld."
Elena stepped into the room, carrying Leo. "You're going back tonight, aren't you?"
Julian turned to her, his expression serious. "I have to finish this, Elena. If Marcus lives, neither you nor Leo will ever be safe. I need to sever the head of the snake once and for all."
Elena walked over to him. "Then take us with you to the city. Don't leave us here alone in the mountains."
Julian frowned. "It's too dangerous."
"It's more dangerous if you don't come back and we're left here with no one," Elena argued fiercely, her large eyes staring into his with unyielding strength. "Bring us to a safe house near the harbor. Let me be close to you."

Julian looked at her for a long moment, seeing the determination in her eyes. The quiet nurse who had entered his house a week ago had transformed into a warrior in her own right.
"Alright," Julian conceded softly. "We leave at dusk."
