Late that night, Emma walked along the private terrace of her new penthouse overlooking the glittering Manhattan skyline.
The crisp city breeze danced through her hair, carrying the distant hum of traffic and life below.
Her phone chimed with a single notification from the prison communications portal: a message request from inmate #49281, Julian Vance.
Emma tapped the screen to preview the text.
Emma, please accept my call tomorrow. It's my birthday. I haven't heard a friendly voice in months. Mom refuses to visit me. I have nothing left. Please just tell me you forgive me.
Emma looked at the message for a second. There was no hatred in her heart, no burning desire for further revenge. There was only the serene, peaceful silence of absolute indifference.
True power wasn't about holding a grudge; it was about outgrowing the people who tried to cage you until they became completely invisible in your rearview mirror.
