Chapter 11 - The Arrest

Sirens wailed outside the revolving glass doors.

Four uniform police officers burst into the lobby, tasers drawn. "Drop the lighter! Step away from the jar!"

Evelyn dropped the glass jar in sheer panic. It shattered against the polished marble floor, splashing sweet-smelling apple juice across her expensive leather boots.

"Wait! You don't understand! I'm Evelyn Vance! My husband is—"

"Ma'am, put your hands behind your back," the lead officer commanded, grabbing her wrists and clicking cold steel handcuffs around them. "You're under arrest for trespassing, making terroristic threats, and reckless endangerment."

"Julian! Julian, help me!" Evelyn wailed as the officers dragged her toward the squad cars outside.

Journalists, alerted by the commotion, were already gathering at the entrance, their cameras flashing relentlessly through the windows, capturing every second of Evelyn’s hysterical perp walk.

Emma stood by the shattered glass, watching the woman who had terrorized her for twelve months get shoved into the back of a police cruiser.

Marcus Cole walked up beside Emma, handing her a fresh cup of coffee. "That takes care of Evelyn's bail privileges. With the previous assault charge and today's stunt, the judge will hold her without bond until her preliminary hearing on Friday."

"And Julian?" Emma asked, taking a sip.

"Julian is currently at the First National Bank," Marcus replied, a cold grin touching his lips. "He's trying to withdraw cash to flee the state before the tax audit hits."

"Let's make sure he finds the vault empty," Emma said.
