Chapter 15 - The Vance Empire

Six months later.

The Dallas Business Journal released its annual Power 100 issue, featuring an exclusive cover story on the massive expansion of Vance Global Logistics into autonomous supply chain networks.

On the cover was a full-page photograph of me standing on the observation deck of the newly renamed Vance Technology Tower, dressed in an impeccably tailored navy blazer, wearing my mother's pearl earrings, looking out over the city with total command.

Inside a prison common room a hundred miles south in Huntsville, Texas, an inmate dropped a dog-eared copy of the magazine onto a stainless-steel table.

Grant Whitmore, dressed in plain white prison cotton with calloused hands from laundry duty, caught a glimpse of the cover.

He stared at the photograph of the woman he had once slapped and thrown into the rain—the woman he had called weak and dependent.

Now, she stood at the head of a twelve-billion-dollar global empire, while he sat in a crowded mess hall with three years remaining on his sentence, completely forgotten by the world he had tried so desperately to conquer.

Back in Dallas, the sun began to set over Highland Park, painting the evening sky in deep hues of violet and gold.

I stepped out onto the balcony of my home, feeling the warm Texas breeze against my face. There was no rain. No fear. No broken glass.

I raised my tea cup to the horizon, knowing with absolute certainty that every single ledger had been balanced, every debt had been collected, and the name Claire Vance would never be diminished again.
