Chapter 8 - Exposed in 4K

"Ladies and gentlemen! May I have your attention, please!"

Julian Blackwood’s voice boomed through the ballroom’s state-of-the-art sound system as he took the center stage microphone, tapping the glass with a silver spoon.

The crowd of three hundred billionaires, judges, district attorneys, and journalists turned toward the stage, lowering their glasses in curious anticipation.

"Tonight was supposed to be a celebration of Vance Enterprises’ acquisition of Sterling Horizon," Julian announced, his voice smooth and commanding. "A celebration of growth, legacy, and corporate integrity. But before Daniel Vance signs the final contract, Blackwood Capital would like to present a brief... tribute... to the true cost of this legacy."

"Turn it off!" Daniel roared, lunging toward the stage stairs. "Security! Cut the power!"

Two massive private security guards stepped into Daniel’s path, blocking him with crossed arms.

The ballroom lights dimmed to absolute black.

The giant high-definition projector screen behind the stage flickered to life.

A low, agonized scream filled the ballroom's surround-sound speakers:

"Daniel, help me! The railing gave out!"

The entire room gasped in unison.

On the screen, crystal-clear 4K security footage began to play. It was the surveillance angle from the Vance Manor west wing exterior camera—the footage Daniel thought his corrupt head of security had erased six months ago.

The video showed Clara hanging from the second-story ledge, desperately clutching the velvet curtain. It showed sixty-year-old Maria flat on her stomach, holding Clara’s wrist.

Then, the footage showed Victoria Vance stepping onto Maria’s hand with the sharp heel of her boot.

Gasps of horror and muffled screams erupted from the high-society guests. Several women covered their mouths in disgust; prominent city council members stepped backward, staring at Victoria in stunned disbelief.

"No! That's fake! It's an AI generated deepfake!" Victoria shrieked, her voice echoing frantically across the ballroom. "Daniel, stop them!"

The video didn't stop.

The screen zoomed in on Daniel walking out onto the terrace. The footage captured his face in pristine detail—the cold, calculating expression as he pulled the knife from his slacks and began slicing through the curtain.

Then came the audio, amplified to deafening clarity:

"Mom is right, Clara. You were a convenience to secure my grandfather’s conditional trust... That baby won't inherit anything."

SNAP.

The footage showed the curtain ripping free, plunging the pregnant woman and the old maid straight into the darkness below.

The screen went black.

The ballroom was paralyzed in dead, horrified silence. You could hear the ice cubes melting in the crystal glasses.

Clara stepped onto the stage, walking past Julian, and took the microphone. She reached up with one hand, unclipped the amber contact lenses, and pulled off the raven-black wig, letting her natural auburn hair fall over her bare shoulders.

She stood under the harsh white spotlight, looking down at Daniel Vance.

"Hello, Daniel," Clara said, her real voice ringing clear and triumphant through the hall. "The baby survived. And he's going to inherit everything."
