Chapter 8 - The Memory They Buried

Gabriel told her everything.
Or at least his version.
Six years earlier, Valeria and Gabriel had been secretly engaged.
Alejandro opposed the marriage.
Not because Valeria lacked money.
Not because of class.
Because Valeria’s father had discovered financial crimes inside Alcázar Holdings.
Gabriel wanted to expose them.
Then came the crash.
Gabriel survived.
Valeria survived too.
But she woke with fragmented memory.
Alejandro convinced everyone Gabriel had died.
Valeria was told she had been alone.
Then Sebastián entered her life eighteen months later.
Valeria stared at Gabriel.
“No.”
“What part?”
“All of it.”
“You think I’m lying?”
“I think everyone around me has been lying.”
Gabriel nodded.
“Good.”
He handed her a phone.
“Then don’t believe me.”
On the screen was a video.
Valeria pressed play.
She saw herself.
Younger.
Sitting beside Gabriel.
Speaking directly into the camera.
“If anything happens to us, Alejandro Alcázar did it.”
Valeria dropped the phone.
Her entire body shook.
Gabriel leaned forward.
“There’s more.”
“I don’t want more.”
“You need it.”
“No.”
“Your daughter needs it.”
Valeria looked at him.
Gabriel’s expression changed.
“Because your daughter isn’t valuable only because of the Alcázar trust.”
He placed another document in front of her.
Valeria read it.
Then read it again.
And began to cry.
Because beside the Alcázar fortune was another inheritance.
One belonging to Valeria’s family.
May you like
One she had never known existed.
And whoever controlled her daughter could control both.
