Chapter 9 - The Search Warrant

As Elena was wheeled out into the awaiting ambulance, Detective Ruiz signaled the secondary police unit waiting outside.

"Search teams, go," Ruiz said into his shoulder radio.

Six forensic detectives entered the mansion carrying heavy evidence crates.

"Wait! You can't search this house!" Julian shouted, stepping in front of Ruiz. "I am Julian Howard! You don't have permission to search private quarters!"

Ruiz shoved the warrant directly against Julian's chest. "Read the address, Mr. Howard. Guest Wing, Suite 4, belonging to Vanessa Moore. And your private home office on floor two. We’re seizing all laptops, servers, flash drives, and personal safes."

Vanessa’s knees gave out. She slumped against the wooden banister, hyperventilating. "Julian, stop them! They can't look at my laptop! Julian, do something!"

Julian turned to her, his brow furrowing with sudden suspicion. "Why? What's on your laptop, Vanessa?"

"Nothing! It's private business! My family's estate documents!"

"She's lying, Julian," Evelyn finally spoke, her voice shaking with rage. "She tried to poison Elena’s baby. She put drugs in her vitamins. She tried to kill your child."

Julian froze. The words hit him like a physical blow. He turned back to Vanessa, his face twisting in disbelief. "You... you did what?"

"Julian, she's lying! Your mother is confused!" Vanessa cried, crawling toward him across the marble. "I did it for us! I did everything for us!"
