Chapter 15 - A New Beginning

Eight months later.
The morning sun cast a warm, golden glow over the private oceanfront cottage in Cape Cod. The sound of gentle waves rolling onto the sand drifted through the open French doors.
Elena sat on the wrap-around porch swing, holding her seven-month-old baby boy, Leo, against her shoulder. Leo giggled happily, clutching a wooden rattle in his tiny fist.
The Howard estate had been sold at auction, the proceeds placed into an irrevocable blind trust for Leo's future. Evelyn Howard had moved into a small assisted living facility in upstate New York, completely cut off from the society circles that once worshipped her. Vanessa Moore was serving forty-five years at Framingham State Correctional Institution.
Elena’s phone buzzed on the glass coffee table beside her.
It was a text from Detective Ruiz:
Case officially closed. All assets secured. Enjoy your peace, Elena.

Elena smiled, putting the phone face down without typing a reply. She kissed the top of Leo’s soft head, breathing in the scent of baby powder and salt air.
She had survived the fall. She had dismantled an entire corrupt empire with a single move. And now, the rest of her life belonged entirely to her and her son.
