Chapter 2 - THE SNAKE IN THE BALLROOM
Victor kept his face completely emotionless, but his heart pounded against his ribs.
The girl did not just stumble into this ballroom by accident.
She had been sent by someone who knew his darkest past.
"What is your name, little one?" Victor asked in a low tone.
"Lily," she replied, holding onto his suit jacket sleeve.
Don Salvatore stepped forward, his heavy leather shoes thudding against the floor.
"Victor, what is the meaning of this childish nonsense?" Salvatore growled.
"Send the brat away before my men throw her out into the alley."
Victor stood up slowly, positioning his large frame between Salvatore and Lily.
The temperature in the ballroom seemed to drop ten degrees in a single second.
"If anyone touches this child, they die tonight," Victor said calmly.
Salvatore’s eye twitched with pure fury.
"You forget your place, cleaner," Salvatore snarled, signaling his guards.
Four armed men in black suits slowly moved inward, reaching into their jackets.
Lily shrank behind Victor’s legs, clutching his trousers tightly.
Victor didn't draw his gun; he simply glared at the men with cold, empty eyes.
He knew every single guard's weakness in that room.
He had trained half of them to kill, and he knew how to undo them.
"Salvatore, look at her face closely," Victor commanded softly.
Salvatore hesitated, squinting at the young girl hiding behind the hitman.
Recognition flashed in the old mob boss's eyes, quickly replaced by pure horror.
"It's her..." Salvatore muttered under his breath.
"She was supposed to be dead six months ago along with her mother!"
Victor’s jaw clenched tightly as the truth shattered his composure.
Lily’s mother was Elena—the only woman Victor had ever loved and failed to save.
"You lied to me," Victor whispered, his voice dripping with lethal intent.
"You told me Elena died in a car accident!"
