The documents changed everything.
Arthur spent the entire night reading every page.
Every signature.

“You found them.”
Arthur stood across from her.
“How long?”

“How long did you know about Maya?”

“I was trying to protect us.”

“Protect us?”
“You destroyed a woman.”

“I was afraid.”
Arthur stared.

“For once, you were afraid?”
Victoria looked at him.
“Yes.”
“Because Isabella had something I didn’t.”
“What?”
“Your heart.”
Silence.
Arthur stepped back.
The confession hurt more than any lie.
“You ruined her life because you were jealous.”
Victoria whispered:
“I thought if she disappeared…”
“You would forget.”
Arthur looked at her.
“I never forgot.”
Victoria’s face changed.
And she finally understood.
She had spent thirty years fighting a woman who was gone.

Arthur turned away.
“It’s over.”
Victoria grabbed his arm.
“Arthur.”
He stopped.
“You don’t know everything.”
Slowly, he looked back.
“What else?”
Victoria’s hands trembled.
“Your father was involved.”
Arthur froze.
“What?”
“He ordered it.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
Victoria whispered.
“He threatened Isabella.”
“He threatened me.”
“He told me if I didn’t separate you two…”
“Your company would be destroyed.”
Arthur stared.
“You’re lying.”
“I wish I was.”
The next morning, Arthur opened his father’s old private records.
Hidden inside was a file.
A file that had been locked away for decades.
Inside were photographs.
Reports.
And one final document.
Arthur read the first line.
Then stopped breathing.
