Chapter 11 - THE WOMAN WHO LOST EVERYTHING

Victoria had spent thirty years protecting a life she thought she wanted.
The mansion.
The wealth.
The status.
The respect.
But now she sat alone in the same ballroom where everything began.
The place where she slapped Maya.
The place where the truth arrived.
She looked at the empty space where Maya had stood.
A young woman.
A stranger.
A daughter.
Victoria closed her eyes.
She remembered Isabella.
Thirty years ago.
A small apartment.
A frightened young woman holding a baby.
Victoria had gone there with one purpose.
To end the problem.
But Isabella had not screamed.
She had not begged.
She had simply looked at her.
And said:
“One day, that little girl will know exactly what you did.”
Victoria opened her eyes.
The memory had never left her.
A knock interrupted her thoughts.
Richard entered.
“It’s done.”
Victoria looked up.
“What did you do?”
Richard smiled.
“The girl is scared.”
Victoria stood.
“What does that mean?”
“It means she will leave.”
Victoria stared at him.
“No.”
Richard frowned.
“No?”
Victoria looked away.
“I wanted her gone.”
“Yes.”
“But not like this.”
Richard laughed.
“Now you care?”
Victoria’s face hardened.
“Be careful.”
Richard stepped closer.
“You’re losing control.”
Victoria looked at him.
“You were never supposed to hurt her.”
Richard smiled.
“You should have thought about that thirty years ago.”
Victoria froze.
“What did you say?”
Richard walked toward the door.
“You think you’re innocent because you regret it?”
“No.”
“You’re just afraid because Arthur found out.”
After he left…
Victoria sat alone.
And for the first time in thirty years…
she admitted something.
She had been wrong.
Not because she loved Arthur.
But because she destroyed an innocent woman to keep him.
The next morning, Victoria did something nobody expected.
She called Arthur.
When he answered, she spoke quietly.
“I need to tell you everything.”
Arthur was silent.
“Why now?”
Victoria swallowed.
“Because Richard is going to hurt Maya.”
Arthur’s expression changed.
“What?”
“He doesn’t want the truth exposed.”
“He wants her gone.”
Arthur immediately stood.
“Where is he?”
Victoria closed her eyes.
“I don’t know.”
“Then why call me?”
A long pause.
Then Victoria whispered:
“Because she doesn’t deserve what happened to Isabella.”
Arthur said nothing.
Victoria continued.
“I was cruel.”
“I was selfish.”
“But Richard…”
Her voice shook.
“He is dangerous.”
Before Arthur could respond…
the call ended.
A message appeared on his phone.
From an unknown number.
A photo.
Maya.
Inside a car.
Her hands tied.
Arthur’s heart stopped.
