Chapter 13 - THE LAST SECRET OF THE STERLING FAMILY

The warehouse became completely silent.
Not the peaceful kind of silence.
The kind that came before something terrible happened.
Richard Hale stood in the middle of the room.
His hand held the gun tightly.
Arthur stood between him and Maya.
For the first time in decades…
Arthur Sterling looked powerless.
No money.
No influence.
No army of lawyers.
Just a father trying to protect his daughter.
“Put the gun down, Richard.”
Arthur’s voice was calm.
But everyone could hear the fear underneath.
Richard laughed.
“Still pretending you’re the hero?”
Arthur stared at him.
“You kidnapped my daughter.”
Richard shook his head.
“Your daughter?”
“You didn’t even know she existed for thirty years.”
The words hit harder than the weapon.
Arthur lowered his eyes.
Because Richard was right.
But Maya looked at Richard.
“No.”
Everyone turned.
Maya slowly stood.
Her hands were still tied.
But her voice was steady.
“You’re wrong.”
Richard frowned.
“About what?”
“My father made mistakes.”
“He was afraid.”
“He was weak.”
Arthur looked at her.
But Maya continued.
“That doesn’t make him innocent.”
“But it also doesn’t make you right.”
Richard’s expression darkened.
“You sound just like Isabella.”
Maya froze.
“You knew my mother.”
Richard smiled.
“I knew her better than you think.”
Arthur stepped forward.
“What did you do to her?”
Richard looked at him.
“The same thing your father wanted.”
Arthur’s face changed.
“No.”
“Yes.”
Richard lowered the gun slightly.
“Your father hired me.”
The room froze.
Maya looked at Arthur.
Arthur looked completely shocked.
“My father?”
Richard nodded.
“He wanted Isabella gone.”
“He wanted you to focus on building the company.”
“He wanted the Sterling name untouched.”
Arthur’s breathing became heavy.
“You’re lying.”
Richard laughed.
“Am I?”
“Ask yourself why your father kept records of everything.”
“Ask yourself why he trusted me.”
Arthur looked at Daniel.
Daniel had secretly entered behind security.
He held a small recording device.
Richard continued.
“Your father paid me to scare Isabella.”
“To make her leave.”
“But she refused.”
Arthur whispered:
“Then what happened?”
Richard smiled.
“That was the problem.”
“She refused.”
Maya’s heart raced.
“What did you do?”
Richard looked at her.
“I gave her a reason to leave.”
Arthur stepped forward.
“What reason?”
Richard’s smile disappeared.
“I threatened her daughter.”
Maya felt the air disappear from her lungs.
Arthur’s face turned pale.
“You threatened a baby?”
Richard shrugged.
“It worked.”
Arthur moved toward him.
Security immediately stepped forward.
“Sir!”
But Arthur didn’t care.
“You destroyed her life.”
Richard laughed.
“No.”
“I protected the Sterling empire.”
Arthur looked at him with disgust.
“You protected money.”
Richard pointed the gun.
“And money is why you’re all standing here.”
Suddenly…
Victoria’s voice came from the doorway.
“No.”
Everyone turned.
Victoria stood there.
Her face was filled with guilt.
Not anger.
Not pride.
Guilt.
Richard stared.
“You came.”
Victoria looked at him.
“You’re sick.”
Richard laughed.
“Now you have morals?”
Victoria walked closer.
“I made mistakes.”
“But I will not let you destroy her too.”
Richard smiled.
“You think you’re saving yourself?”
“No.”
Victoria looked at Maya.
“I’m trying to save what is left of my soul.”
A moment passed.
Then Richard moved.
Everything happened at once.
A shout.
A gunshot.
A scream.
Arthur grabbed Maya and pulled her down.
The bullet hit the wall behind them.
Security rushed forward.
Richard tried to escape.
But Daniel blocked the exit.
Minutes later…
Richard Hale was on the floor.
Handcuffed.
The man who controlled secrets for thirty years…
finally lost control.
But the damage was already done.
May you like
Because the truth was now public.
And the Sterling empire would never be the same.
