Victor Lang was arrested before midnight.
But he had prepared for failure.
At 12:17 a.m., automated files were released to journalists around the world.
Confidential Voss Global documents.
Private emails.
Internal financial records.
Employee information.
Acquisition strategies.
The market reacted instantly.
Victor could no longer control Voss Global.
So he tried to burn it down.
Elena returned to headquarters before sunrise.
Employees filled the building.
Some were frightened.
Others were angry.
Many believed they would lose their jobs.
Elena walked through the trading floor.
People stopped speaking as she passed.
She could have gone directly to the executive level.
Instead, she stopped in the center of the room.
“Everyone.”
Hundreds of faces turned toward her.
“I’m not going to tell you everything is fine.”
Silence.
“It isn’t.”
She continued.
“We have lost confidential information.”
“We will lose money.”
“We may lose clients.”
“And the next few weeks will be difficult.”
Nobody moved.
“But salaries will be paid.”
“Retirement accounts will be protected.”
“And nobody in this building is losing a job because Victor Lang decided to destroy what he couldn’t control.”
A woman near the back raised her hand.
“Can you guarantee that?”
Elena looked at her.
“Yes.”
Natalie whispered behind her.
“Elena.”
Elena knew what Natalie was thinking.
Guaranteeing payroll during the crisis could require billions.
Elena continued anyway.
“If necessary, I will use my personal holdings.”
The room changed.
Employees began looking at one another.
Elena had spent years hiding the extent of her power.
Now she understood that secrecy had a cost.
People could not trust leadership they never truly knew.
Afterward, Adrian approached.
“That could cost you almost everything.”
“I know.”
“You really mean it?”
“Yes.”
Adrian smiled faintly.
“Dad would have liked that answer.”
Elena looked away.
Later that morning, another problem arrived.
Damian entered headquarters voluntarily.
Marcus stopped him.
“He’s not authorized.”
Elena looked toward Damian.
“What do you want?”
Damian held out a folder.
“Victor had a second network.”
Elena took it.
“What network?”
“Political influence.”
Natalie opened the folder.
Her expression changed.
Victor had compromised regulators responsible for investigating Voss Global.
If those officials remained in place, Victor could manipulate the case even from custody.
Elena looked at Damian.
“Where did you get this?”
“My father’s files.”
“Why give it to me?”
Damian shrugged.
“Maybe I’m trying that thing you mentioned.”
“What thing?”
“Doing something without getting anything afterward.”
Elena almost smiled.
Almost.
Then Marcus entered quickly.
“Elena.”
“What now?”
“Victor made bail.”
Everyone froze.
Natalie stared at him.
“How?”
Marcus looked toward the folder Damian had just delivered.
“One of the judges on that list signed the order.”
Damian’s face darkened.
Elena closed the folder.
