Chapter 2: Evelyn's Real Identity
Briggs finally loosened his grip.
Not out of fear.
Out of confusion.
"What is this?"
Nathan ignored him.
Instead...
he walked directly toward Evelyn.
Then...
to everyone's shock...
the legendary general stood at attention.
Perfectly.
Before the elderly woman.
And saluted.
Every veteran in the room immediately followed.
One after another.
Dozens of hands snapped upward.
The entire lobby froze.
Briggs stared in disbelief.
Nathan lowered his salute.
"Ma'am."
"My apologies for arriving late."
Evelyn smiled gently.
"I knew you'd come."
The CEO, board members, and executives rushed from the elevators after hearing the commotion.
Company president Richard Lawson stopped dead.
His face drained of color.
"Evelyn..."
"You should've told us you were coming."
Briggs looked back and forth between them.
"What is happening?"
Richard swallowed hard.
"You've been speaking to the company's founder."
Briggs blinked.
"No..."
Richard nodded.
"She built this corporation fifty years ago."
"And she still owns fifty-one percent of it."
