Chapter 3 - The Secret Transport

The heavy iron doors of the ambulance slammed shut with a deafening bang.
Inside, the air smelled sharply of bleach and cold steel.
Emily lay strapped to a narrow gurney, her body completely rigid and unable to move.
The neurotoxin burned like liquid ice through her veins.
She could hear everything around her, but her eyelids were locked heavy and half-closed.
"Is the dosage holding?" Arthur’s cold voice echoed from the front seat.
"She’s fully paralyzed, Mr. Sterling," Dr. Vance replied from beside the gurney.
Dr. Vance adjusted a glass syringe filled with a dark, amber liquid.
"She can hear us, can't she?" Arthur asked, stepping into the back of the vehicle.
"Her sensory receptors are wide open," the doctor chuckled quietly.
"She feels every turn, hears every word, but cannot utter a single whisper."
Arthur leaned over Emily, his breathing hot against her cheek.
"Did you really think that little maid could save you, Emily?" Arthur sneered.
"She's currently sitting in a cold holding cell, charged with assault and desecration."
"No one is coming for you."
A tear trickled slowly down Emily’s frozen cheek.
Arthur reached out and aggressively wiped the tear away with his thumb.
"Don't waste your tears, my love," he whispered sinisterly.
"You have a long night ahead of you."
The ambulance jolted hard as it drove off the paved road onto a rough gravel path.
Emily felt her heart hammering violently inside her chest, yet the heart monitor beside her read a steady, artificial pulse.
Dr. Vance had tampered with the medical equipment to deceive any outside observers.
"Where are we taking her?" Dr. Vance asked, checking his watch.
"To the abandoned wing of the private estate," Arthur replied smoothly.
"The lawyers are arriving at midnight to sign over her inheritance."
"What if she wakes up enough to blink during the signing?" the doctor worried.
"Then you give her another dose," Arthur said coldly.
"And if her heart stops for real this time?" Dr. Vance pressed.
May you like
Arthur turned his head toward the dark window and smiled.
"Then we won't have to fake the funeral twice."
