The Sterling estate had never been this quiet.
Only minutes earlier, it had been filled with music, laughter, and the sound of champagne glasses touching in celebration.
Now, every guest stood frozen.
The woman in the gray catering uniform remained in the center of the garden, holding the old photograph with trembling fingers.
Julian stared at her.
He wanted to say something.

But his mind was empty.
The stranger’s face felt familiar.
Not familiar like someone he had seen at a party.

Cassandra quickly stepped forward.
“Security,” she called softly.
Her voice was calm.
Too calm.
Several guests looked confused.
The woman looked at Cassandra and immediately lowered her eyes.
That reaction caught Julian’s attention.
“You know her?” Julian asked.
Cassandra smiled.
A perfect smile.
The same smile she had worn for three years.
“No, Julian. She’s just confused. Some people try to create drama when they see wealthy families.”
The woman shook her head.
“No…”
Her voice cracked.
“I’m not here for money.”
She looked directly at Julian.
“I’m here because you deserve to know the truth.”
A wave of whispers moved through the crowd.
Julian took a step closer.
“What truth?”
The woman slowly lifted the photograph.
“This was taken two weeks before your accident.”
Julian’s face changed.
His accident.
The word alone created a strange pain behind his eyes.
A flash.
A mountain.
A woman crying.

Then everything disappeared.
Cassandra noticed.
She immediately grabbed his hand.
“Julian, stop. You’re overwhelmed.”
But the woman continued.
“Your name wasn’t always Sterling.”

Julian looked at her.
“What did you say?”
The woman swallowed.
“Before Cassandra told you who you were…”
She looked at Cassandra.
“…someone else already knew.”
