Chapter 17 - THE WARRANT

The surgeon’s words echoed through the sterile hospital corridor like a physical blow.

Admiral Vance Miller’s face transformed instantly from relief into absolute, terrifying fury.

"Where are those officers right now?" the Admiral demanded, his voice dangerously quiet.

"They are down the hall in the nursery holding wing, sir," the surgeon answered, trembling slightly.

"My medical staff refused to hand over the child without your explicit clearance."

"Good," the Admiral said, turning his head toward Agent Marcus.

"Marcus, secure Lily and guard Rachel's recovery room door with your life."

"If anyone without a medical badge attempts to enter, drop them."

"Understood, Admiral," Marcus replied, unholstering his sidearm under his damp jacket.

The Admiral turned on his heel and stroed down the polished corridor toward the double doors of the nursery wing.

Two tall military policemen in crisp dress greens were standing outside the glass nursery window.

One of them carried a heavy steel transport case, while the other held a clipboard with official brass seals.

"Admiral Miller," the lead military policeman said, attempting a stiff, formal salute.

"We have strict operational orders directly from the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."

"You have five seconds to turn around and leave this deck," the Admiral interrupted, stepping into their space.

"Sir, this warrant is signed by General Sterling himself under National Security Directive 4," the officer insisted.

"The child is classified as a material witness relative to the treason investigation against Ethan Vance."

"That child is my grandson," the Admiral hissed, his grey eyes locked onto the officer's pupils.

"And General Sterling is about to be arrested for high treason against the United States."

The second officer reached for his sidearm holster mounted on his leather belt.

"Sir, step back immediately or we will be forced to detain you!" the officer warned.

The Admiral didn't hesitate.

He struck the officer's throat with an open palm strike, sending him crashing back against the wall.

Before the lead officer could draw his weapon, the Admiral grabbed his wrist, twisting it violently until the bone popped.

The heavy steel transport case clattered onto the linoleum floor with a sharp metallic bang.

The Admiral slammed the lead officer face-first into the wall, pinning him securely with one arm.

"Tell General Sterling," the Admiral whispered into the officer's ear, "that I am coming for him personally."
