Chapter 15 - THE UNMASKING
The freezing ocean wind whistled through the rusty steel superstructures of Shipyard Dock 42.
The corporate executive cowered on the rain-slicked concrete, staring up at the barrels of the Shadow Squadron's rifles.
Admiral Vance Miller stood over him, the gold hardware token held firmly between his gloved fingers.
"Who authorized the hit on my wife six years ago?" the Admiral demanded, his tone dangerously calm.
"I... I don't have that name!" the executive stammered, his teeth chattering uncontrollably from the cold and terror.
"I was only hired to handle the local logistics through the Defense Procurement Board!"
"Lie to me again, and you won't survive the next minute," the Admiral warned, stepping closer.
"I'm telling you the truth!" the man whimpered, raising his hands in surrender.
"The order didn't come from a civilian agency!"
"It came directly from inside the Joint Chiefs of Staff!"
The Admiral’s eyes narrowed slightly, a chill colder than the sea breeze running down his spine.
"The Joint Chiefs?" the Admiral repeated, his voice dropping into a deadly whisper.
"General Sterling..." the executive confessed, tears mixing with the rainwater on his face.
"General Sterling is the head of the syndicate."
"He used Vice Admiral Vance and Ethan to pull the operational files from your home."
Agent Marcus’s voice crackled through the Admiral's ear-piece comms unit.
"Admiral, do you read me? This is Marcus!"
"Go ahead, Marcus," the Admiral responded, pressing his earpiece.
"We have reached the naval underground hospital in Sector 4," Marcus reported through heavy static.
