Chapter 9 - The New Master

Six months later, the Rossi estate had transformed into a place unrecognizable from the cold, stone prison it had once been.

Bright toys littered the Persian rugs in the great hall. The nursery had been expanded into a vibrant sunroom overlooking the ocean, filled with potted lemon trees, soft velvet playmats, and natural light. Leo was crawling now, laughing and babbling, with two tiny bottom teeth and a pair of deep brown eyes that mirrored his late mother's with startling clarity.

Hannah had blossomed. The hollow, haunted look in her eyes had been replaced by a quiet, radiant strength. She wore tailored cashmere sweaters and simple linen trousers, moving through the estate not as a servant, but as the beating heart of the home.

I sat at the outdoor patio table, watching Hannah chase Leo across the manicured lawn. The baby shrieked with pure delight, his chubby hands slapping against the grass as he tried to escape her gentle grasp.

"He's getting fast, Boss," Marco noted, standing nearby with a genuine, rare smile on his weathered face. "Gonna need a leash for him soon."

"He's strong," I said, taking a sip of black espresso. "Stronger than I ever was at his age."

Hannah picked Leo up, spinning him around in the air until he broke into a fit of belly laughs. She walked over to the patio table, out of breath and glowing, setting the boy down in my lap.

"He wants his father," Hannah said, wiping a blade of grass from Leo’s cheek.

Leo immediately grabbed my thumb with both hands, chewing on it happily. I chuckled, running a hand over his soft curls, feeling a sense of absolute peace that I had thought died in that fiery car explosion months ago.

"The medical board sent over the final adoption and guardianship paperwork," I mentioned casually, looking up at Hannah.

She froze, her smile fading slightly. "Adoption?"

"Co-guardianship," I clarified, sliding a leather folder toward her. "I have established a blind trust in your name. You are legally recognized as Leo’s primary maternal guardian. If anything ever happens to me, you receive full custody of my son and half of the Rossi estate assets."

Hannah stared at the legal documents in shock, her breath catching. "Lorenzo... this is millions of dollars. I can't accept this. I'm just—"

"You are the woman who saved his life," I cut in firmly, reaching out to take her trembling hand in mine. "You gave him your strength when he had none left. You gave this house a soul again. You are not 'just' anything, Hannah. You are everything to us."

May you like

Her hazel eyes filled with tears, but this time, they were tears of pure joy. She squeezed my hand tightly, nodding her head. "I will protect him forever. I swear it."

"I know you will," I whispered.
