Chapter 12 - A Lion's Wrath

I didn't flinch. I didn't raise my voice. I simply stepped between Senator Vance and Hannah, looking down at the politician with eyes as cold as a frozen grave.
"Senator Vance," I said, my voice carrying with clear, chilling authority across the silent room. "Your nephew is currently residing in a South American prison camp for the aggravated assault and attempted murder of a pregnant woman. Would you like me to release the financial records detailing the two million dollars in illicit kickbacks you received from Carmine Castiglione to cover it up?"
Vanceâs face drained of every drop of color. He staggered backward, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.
"I... I have no idea what you're talking about," Vance stammered, sweating profusely under his collar.
"Every transaction is backed up on three secure servers, Senator," I continued, taking a slow step toward him. "If you ever speak to Hannah again, or if you ever breathe my family's name in public, those files will be delivered to the Attorney General before sunrise. Now walk away from us before I lose my patience."
Vance didn't utter another word. He turned on his heel and practically sprinted toward the exit, pushing past the stunned onlookers.
The ballroom remained dead silent for three long seconds. Then, I turned back to Hannah, offering her my arm once more.
"Shall we get a drink?" I asked smoothly.

Hannah let out a soft, breathless laugh, her eyes shining with admiration and pride. "I would love one, Mr. Rossi."
For the rest of the evening, not a single person dared whisper against her. She was treated with the highest respect, moving through the crowd with effortless elegance, while I stayed by her side, realizing with every passing minute that my heart, long thought dead, had fallen completely and irrevocably in love with her.
