Chapter 9 - THE GHOST FACTORY

The underground sewer canal led them two miles away from the estate.
They emerged through a rusted iron grate into an abandoned industrial shipyard on the edge of the city.
The cold rain washed the sewer sludge from their bodies, but it chilled them to the bone.
Sofia shivered uncontrollably, her bare feet cut and bleeding on the wet asphalt.
She had transformed from a high-society princess into a broken wanderer in a single night.
Elena walked with purpose toward an old, windowless brick warehouse at the end of the pier.
"Where are we?" Sofia asked, her voice raspy and weak.
"My safehouse," Elena replied without looking back.
"The one place Marcus and your father don't know about."
Elena reached the heavy steel door of the warehouse.
She entered a sixteen-digit code on an old mechanical keypad hidden inside a rusted junction box.
The heavy door unlocked with a deep metallic thud.
They stepped inside.
Automatic motion sensors flickered on, illuminating a massive, high-tech command center hidden inside the decaying building.
Monitors covered the walls, displaying live feeds of every major financial market, bank vault, and private security camera in the city.
Racks of black tactical gear, weapons, and medical supplies lined the far wall.
In the center of the room sat a glass display case.
Inside the display case rested a velvet box.
Sofia gasped, stumbling back two steps.
Inside the velvet box was a gemstone.
A massive, flawless, fifty-carat pink diamond ring.
It was identical to the one Elena had been wearing all night.
"I... I don't understand," Sofia stammered, pointing a shaking finger at the glass case.
"You said your ring was a fake!"
"You said Viktor swapped it in Zurich!"
Elena walked over to the display case, entered a biometric code, and lifted the glass dome.
She picked up the pink diamond ring and held it up to the overhead light.
"The ring I wore tonight was a fake," Elena said softly, a dark smile playing on her lips.
"I swapped it myself three months ago."
"I knew Marcus was alive."
"I knew Viktor was a traitor."
"And I knew your father was planning a coup."
Sofia’s jaw dropped in absolute shock.
"You... you knew everything?!"
"I let them think their plan was working," Elena explained, sliding the real Pink Emperor Diamond onto her finger.
"I let them think they had trapped me."
"I let them burn the archive to make them believe I was dead."
"Because a enemy who thinks he has already won... becomes careless."
Sofia stared at Elena in utter terror and awe.
The woman standing before her was not just a billionaire heiress.
She was a master strategist who had manipulated the entire night from the very beginning.
"Then... why did you bring me along?" Sofia asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"Why didn't you just leave me to die in the garage?"
Elena turned to look at Sofia, her green eyes cold and piercing.
"Because to take down your father completely, I need someone who knows his personal passwords."
"I need his biological key."
"And I need his dirty little secret."
Elena walked over to one of the giant monitors and tapped the screen.
A file popped up.
It showed a birth certificate and a blood test result from twenty years ago.
Sofia leaned in to read the names on the screen.
Her heart stopped beating.
The father listed on her birth certificate was not Arthur Sterling.
The father listed... was Marcus Vance.
Sofia stumbled back, her hand flying to her mouth as her world shattered for the second time.
"No..." Sofia whimpered.
"No, that's not true! That's a lie!"
"You aren't Arthur's daughter, Sofia," Elena said with ruthless precision.
May you like
"You are Marcus's secret child."
"You are my niece."
