Chapter 16 - CLEAN CLEANSER

Three days later.

The morning sun broke through the grey city clouds, illuminating the high-rise glass towers of the financial district.

The grand ballroom where the night had begun was completely restored.

The broken glass was gone.

The soot on the ceiling had been repainted.

The blood stains on the marble floor were scrubbed until they shone like mirrors.

Inside the private office overlooking the harbor, Elena sat behind a massive black oak desk.

She wore a crisp, immaculate white suit jacket with dark pants.

Her hair was styled perfectly in a low, professional bun.

On her finger, the Pink Emperor Diamond caught the morning sunlight, casting brilliant pink reflections across the office walls.

A soft knock echoed at the heavy double doors.

"Enter," Elena said without looking up from her tablet.

The door opened.

Sofia walked in.

She was completely unrecognizable from the girl who had walked into the diner three days ago.

She wore a sharp, tailored dark grey blazer, black trousers, and low leather heels.

Her hair was tied back neatly, her posture erect, confident, and sharp.

She carried a sleek leather briefcase in her left hand.

"The board of directors just finalized the transfer, Aunt Elena," Sofia said, her voice crisp and professional.

She placed a thick stack of legal documents on the oak desk.

"Arthur’s holdings in the shipping sector have been liquidated."

"Marcus’s offshore accounts in Panama and Zurich have been completely absorbed into our central treasury."

"We recovered over four hundred million dollars in lost capital."

Elena picked up the top document, scanning it quickly before signing her name in black ink.

"And Arthur and Marcus?" Elena asked quietly.

Sofia’s expression didn't change.

"Arthur was spotted yesterday begging outside the central train station," Sofia reported without a hint of emotion.

"His creditors found him."

"They took his shoes."

"And Marcus?"

"Marcus tried to leave the country on a cargo ship using a fake passport."

"Customs arrested him at the border for unregistered smuggling."

"He will spend the next twenty years in a maximum-security federal facility."

Elena closed the folder and set her pen down.

She looked at Sofia with a quiet sense of pride.

"You did well, Sofia," Elena said.

"You learned faster than I expected."

Sofia looked out the floor-to-ceiling window at the quiet harbor below.

"I had a good teacher," Sofia replied softly.

"I used to think being rich meant you could treat people like dirt."

"I thought throwing trash at a server made me powerful."

"Now I realize... real power is never having to raise your voice."

Elena smiled, standing up from her desk.

"You're ready for your first assignment."

Sofia turned, her eyes curious.

"What assignment?"

Elena handed her a black leather folder with a red crest stamped on the front.

"There is a rogue faction in Singapore that supported my brother's coup."

"I need someone cold, calculating, and ruthless to go down there and shut them down."

Sofia took the folder, holding it tightly against her chest.

"When do I leave?"

"Tonight," Elena said.

Suddenly, Elena’s desk phone rang.

It was a secure, encrypted line that only three people in the world had access to.

Elena picked up the receiver.

"Speak," Elena said coldly.

A distorted voice came through the speaker, heavy with electronic interference.

“Lady Vance... you executed the wrong brother.”

Elena’s eyes widened slightly.

May you like

“Marcus was the decoy.”

“The real architect of Winterfall... is standing right behind you.”
