Chapter 13 - The Infiltration

The rain had stopped, leaving behind a thick, freezing fog along the coastal cliffs.

The summer cabin sat perched on the edge of a rocky precipice overlooking the crashing black ocean below.

Waves crashed violently against the rocks hundreds of feet down.

Two armed guards walked the perimeter with flashlights sweeping the tree line.

Marcus and Mark crouched low in the dense brush fifty yards away.

"Two guards outside," Marcus whispered, checking his silenced pistol.

"At least three more inside, plus Sarah," Marcus estimated.

"Where are the girls?" Mark asked, scanning the foggy windows with binoculars.

He caught a glimpse of a movement on the second floor.

A small silhouette was visible behind the curtains of the upstairs bedroom.

"Upstairs," Mark said. "I see them."

"Alright," Marcus laid out the plan.

"I will draw the two perimeter guards toward the garage."

"The second they move, you breach the back kitchen door."

"Get upstairs, secure Lily and Emma, and lock the bedroom door."

"I'll handle the rest," Marcus said.

"Be careful, Marcus," Mark said, looking at his friend.

"Don't worry about me," Marcus gave a faint smile.

"I'm long overdue for this fight."

Marcus slipped silently into the shadows toward the left side of the property.

Ten seconds later, a low metallic sound echoed near the garage.

"What was that?" one of the perimeter guards barked, drawing his weapon.

Both guards moved quickly toward the source of the noise.

Mark didn't hesitate.

He sprinted out of the brush, keeping low to the dark ground.

He reached the back patio deck in seconds.

The glass door to the kitchen was locked.

Mark pulled out a tactical glass breaker Marcus had given him.

He pressed it hard against the bottom corner of the pane.

SNAP.

May you like

The glass shattered silently in a spiderweb pattern.

Mark pushed the door open and stepped inside the dark cabin.
