Chapter 12 - The Hidden Truth

Mark stared at the cracked screen of his phone.

His chest heaved with terrifying panic.

"She has them at the cliff house," Mark said, his voice shaking violently.

"The old summer cabin on the north coast," he added.

Marcus turned to look at him.

"It's a trap, Mark," Marcus warned.

"She knows you got that voicemail."

"She wants you to come to her on her terms."

"I don't care if it's a trap!" Mark roared.

"She's putting them on a plane tomorrow!" Mark yelled.

"Once they leave the country, I will never see my children again!"

Marcus remained silent for a long moment.

He reached into the back seat and pulled out a heavy black duffel bag.

He unzipped it, revealing body armor, two handguns, and extra magazines.

"Then we make sure you don't go in blind," Marcus said.

Marcus tossed a tactical vest to Mark.

"Put this on," Marcus ordered.

"If we are doing this, we hit them hard and fast before sunrise."

Mark strapped the heavy Kevlar vest across his chest.

"Why the cliff house, Marcus?" Mark asked suddenly.

"Why would she take them there of all places?"

Marcus paused, looking down at his hands.

"Because that's where your father's car went off the edge ten years ago," Marcus revealed softly.

Mark froze completely.

"What?" Mark whispered.

"Your father didn't die in an accident on the highway," Marcus explained.

"He was driven off the north coast cliff right behind that cabin."

"Sarah isn't just taking your money, Mark," Marcus added.

"She's finishing the job her employer started ten years ago."

Mark gripped his weapon tightly.

The grief and fear that had consumed him for two days instantly hardened into raw, unstoppable rage.

"She thinks she's going to repeat history," Mark said in a low, cold voice.

"She's wrong."
