Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Coup

Back in the city, dawn broke over the towering glass monolith of Pierce Global Headquarters. The seventy-story skyscraper was normally quiet at six in the morning, but today, armed federal marshals flanked every turnstile in the grand lobby.
On the penthouse executive floor, Christopher walked through the double mahogany doors of the primary boardroom.
He wasn't wearing his usual bespoke Italian three-piece suit. He wore a dark crewneck sweater, black tactical trousers, and work boots. His eyes were bloodshot from sleeplessness, a bruised cut running across his cheekbone, but his posture was an iron pillar of absolute resolve.
Around the twenty-foot boardroom table sat nine elderly executives—the board of directors who had rubber-stamped Estelle Pierce’s ruthless decisions for thirty years.
"Christopher, this emergency session is completely out of order," declared Arthur Vance, the seventy-two-year-old corporate counsel, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses. "Your mother is out of the country on private business. Under Section 4 of the corporate bylaws, no executive motions can be tabled without the Chairperson presiding."
Christopher walked silently to the head of the table. He pulled a thick stack of manila folders from under his arm and slammed them down onto the polished walnut surface with the force of a gunshot.
The sound made three board members jump in their leather chairs.
"Section 4 is suspended when the Chairperson is under active federal indictment for murder for hire, money laundering, and treasonous corruption," Christopher said, his voice echoing off the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline.
"Indictment?" Arthur Vance scoffed, trying to maintain his condescending composure. "That’s slander. You have no legal standing here, Christopher. The board was prepared to accept your resignation this morning over the embezzlement audit Estelle authorized."
Christopher pulled out a remote control and pointed it at the high-definition projection wall behind him.
The screen flickered to life. Instead of corporate financial slides, it displayed high-resolution bank wire transcripts, certified by the Treasury Department.
"Every single one of you sitting at this table received an off-the-books quarterly dividend of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars from Apex Freight LLC," Christopher said, pointing the laser at Arthur Vance’s face. "The shell corporation Estelle used to pay the driver who rammed Rachel Monroe’s car three years ago."
Silence settled over the room like a suffocating shroud.
"You didn't just cover up my mother's crimes," Christopher continued, stepping around the table, leaning in close behind each director's chair. "You monetized them. You signed off on the liquidation of Rachel’s private estate after her death. You buried her medical autopsy reports. You thought she was just a disposable nobody from the accounting floor who made the mistake of loving me."
"Christopher, please..." a director on the left stammered, wiping sweat from his forehead with a trembling handkerchief. "We didn't know the specifics of the transport contract! Estelle handled the private security sector!"
"You knew enough to cash the checks," Christopher said coldly.
He threw another set of documents onto the table. "These are irrevocable proxies. As of six o'clock this morning, Captain Vance and the State Police uncovered the secondary trust Rachel set up before she died. Rachel was the sole registered owner of eighteen percent of the common stock—stock Estelle thought she had secretly diluted through fraudulent shell transfers."
Arthur Vance's jaw dropped. "That’s... that’s impossible. Rachel was an associate accountant!"
"Rachel was a brilliant forensic auditor," Christopher snapped. "She knew my mother was stealing from the company pension funds before anyone else did. She protected that stock under a blind trust held in Emma's name. Combined with my twenty-four percent equity and the four non-voting seats I just seized through emergency court injunctions... I hold fifty-three percent of Pierce Global."
Christopher pressed a final button on the remote.
The screen switched to a live video feed from Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida.
On the screen, Estelle Pierce, handcuffed in front of her body, was being led down the mobile airstair of her private jet by two federal marshals. Juliette was sobbing violently behind her, her hands secured behind her back.
Christopher leaned over the boardroom table, staring directly into the terrified faces of the nine directors.

"Motion number one on the agenda," Christopher announced, his voice steady as a guillotine blade. "The immediate termination of every executive sitting in this room, effective this second. Marshals, escort them to the processing vans downstairs."
The heavy doors opened. Twelve federal agents entered the room, badges gleaming in the morning light.
